Finally, get on a flight to Miami with a 12-hour layover before returning to San Diego. Plenty to eat and drink will cost us more than two weeks in San Juan Del Sur during that layover. Miami airport’s international terminal has been remodeled, and there is more to do and more money to spend. One extra week in Nicaragua is worth spending the money on instead of getting stuck in Florida and, most notably, the dump that is Miami.
Eventually, we made it home to San Diego — a little jet-lagged, sun-kissed, and deeply unmotivated to unpack. But in true “we’re home!” fashion, we made plans to rally with friends at a local bar that night. It felt like the right thing to do.
Spoiler alert: We lasted half a drink.
As soon as we sat down, it hit us — the travel, the jet lag, the adrenaline crash, all of it. We looked at each other, nodded silently, and bailed. Straight home. Straight to bed. Zero shame. Maximum sleep.
