Let’s rent a Jimny
Yaaaay, we rented a Jimny!! You may ask, “What the fuck is a Jimny?’, and you wouldn’t be alone. Originally, we were going to rent an ATV or Motorcycles, not shit bad ideas all around, and we settled on the super amazing Suzuki Jimny.
One may tell you that the Jimny is just a Suzuki Samurai, but that would not do it justice. This little Jimny was billed as a fucking 5-person Jeep-like creation. Well, let’s just say it turned out to be much less and much more at the same time.
This little fucker is a brilliant death trap to behold. It has probably the worst 4-cylinder motor, coupled with a very good 4X4 system, while still maintaining its style and dignity. Hahahaha!!!!
I will admit that the thing is not much larger than our Mini Cooper Countryman back at home, and I wouldn’t mind having it in OB or San Diego in general. It is easy to switch between 4X4 and 2-wheel drive, yet it has the amazing lack of power that a small Yugo in the 1980s would give you. I still feel the Jimny is a 3-cylinder (1 cylinder probably fell out as Angel yelled at me to be more careful while driving) douche mobile, and yet I love it all the same.
Renting the car was both a convenience and a necessity, as we needed to get more 5-gallon water jugs, cases of Toña, and provisions. Additionally, renting the Jimny gave us time to explore San Juan Del Sur before we returned to the Casa.
San Juan Del Sur is a great place, but it reminds me of years visiting the Sea of Cortez and Baja Mexico beach towns. Dickhead kids (I’m old now, the “kids” are probably in their 20s) running around doing shots and partying at shite bars that all claim to be the next best place. I constantly have to remind myself and Angel that if there are no people at the establishment, there is a fucking reason. The town and beach are decent; the beach has numerous boats and a tranquil setting that makes for great pictures, but give me a secluded beach with no expats, and I will be there every time before I ever think of dipping my toes in the sand in the ever-present frat boy/bleached out surfer downtown beach.
